Police officer arrested for corruption and drug trafficking

April 27, 2016

Hawks Anticorruption Unit members arrested a 33-year-old on duty police Sergeant stationed at Swellendam SAPS for corruption, drugs trafficking and defeating the ends of justice.

The suspect had been on the Hawks’ radar for some time, following allegations of illicit dealings using a marked state vehicle.

On April 26, 2016 just before 12:00, it was business as usual for the unsuspecting Sergeant, when a covert operation was carried out, wherein he was approached to deliver 30g of tik (drugs valued at approximately R15 000-00) at the local garage in exchange of R1 000-00.

After accepting the money, he proceeded to the said location culminating in his arrest.

He is due to appear at Swellendam Magistrate’s Court this Thursday, 28 April 2016.
