Four men have been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg after a security breach that saw 1.5kg of cocaine allowed to pass through the airport.

Two customs officials, an airline employee and a foreign national will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said an alleged drug mule, a 29-year old man on his way to Lagos, Nigeria landed from Sao Paolo, Brazil. Officials allowed him to pass through the airport with R425 000 worth of cocaine.

He was carrying the stash inside his body.

The two customs officials allegedly escorted the man to a hotel. It is believed that the officials were joined by an airline employee “who apparently came to collect the ejected drug bullets from the suspect’s body”.
